Sue Hatton

Managing Director (Non-Solicitor)

Sue Hatton is Managing Director of Pickerings. A Chartered Fellow of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development), and has worked in HR and Employment law since 1992. Sue combines commercial acumen with a detailed knowledge of the law offering jargon free advice to clients.

Sue has extensive business management and leadership experience both in and outside of the legal sector and leads the team in the strategy, performance and operation of the business with client service at the forefront.  Prior to joining the legal sector in 2002, Sue held senior HR roles within larger, blue chip organisations in the food manufacturing, production, distribution and retail sectors. 

Her legal expertise covers all aspects of the employment process, from recruitment and selection through to termination of employment.  However difficult the employment issue may seem, the likelihood is that Sue will have handled a similar scenario and be able to assist clients with practical, business-focussed advice. Sue has a loyal base of clients who have sought and valued her clear and practical advice during her years at the firm. Clients often seek her opinion in advance of a business reorganisation.

Sue is able to provide hands-on HR support to back up employment advice given. This support extends to all aspects of the employment process, from handling difficult situations such as disciplinaries and grievances, bullying and settlement agreements - through to large-scale TUPE, organisational change and redundancy processes.

Sue has recently helped resolved a number of complex workplace bullying and harassment cases  involving extensive investigation of allegations and grievances. She is regularly involved in negotiation of Settlement Agreements on behalf of clients.  

An experienced trainer and speaker, Sue delivers skill-based training on a wide variety of HR topics and Anti-Money Laundering topics. She is a regular speaker at Pickerings Employment Law Seminars that are held twice yearly with over 55 attendees. 

Sue was recently invited to speak at the SRA Compliance Officers Conference at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. In a session with Colette Best, Director of Anti-Money Laundering, SRA and Zoe Allen-Robinson, Anti-Money Laundering Proactive Supervision Manager, Sue addressed the topic: Anti-money laundering - what you need to know.  Sue was invited to provide a perspective from a firm who have had a visit from the SRA,and provide some practical points on AML Compliance.
