Joanna Robson

Joanna leads a dedicated team of employment law specialists here at Pickerings Solicitors.  

With over 20 years’ experience as an employment solicitor she is commended by clients for her clear, sensitive and jargon free advice. Joanna has a focus on delivering strategic solutions and navigating complex legal issues.  Her expertise is in providing commercial, pragmatic employment law advice to private and public sector clients on a vast range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters, including but not limited to the following:

• Advising and representing clients at Employment Tribunals 
• Advising on redundancies and assisting clients through the consultation process, including where appropriate collective consultation 
• Working with and advising clients on TUPE, including working closely with the firm’s corporate team where TUPE may apply to business mergers and acquisitions 
• Advising in relation to exit strategies and preparing and negotiating on Settlement Agreements, especially in relation to senior exits 
• A regular speaker at training workshops and employment law seminars to a wide range of businesses as well as being interviewed as an employment law expert on TV news programmes, providing analysis of changes to employment law.  
• Advising clients on day-to-day employment law issues including grievances, disciplinary matters, capability procedures, termination of employment, TUPE, redundancy, discrimination and harassment in the workplace. 

Joanna has specialised exclusively in employment law since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2004.  Prior to joining Pickerings Solicitors in October 2023, her career spanned over working for a law firm in the City of London, followed by regional law firms in the Midlands, including Freeth Cartwright and Sydney Mitchell. She also ran her own bespoke employment law practice for 13 years where she specialised in contentious discrimination law cases, particularly in relation to pregnancy, maternity and family friendly work rights.  During this time, Joanna featured on a number of expert advice panels, alongside market leaders, of maternity related publications.
 
Joanna has significant experience in representing clients in many different industry sectors including but not limited to financial services, corporate finance, manufacturing, legal services, automotive, hospitality, public sector and tourism. 
 
Joanna also takes pro-active steps to gain greater knowledge of her clients’ businesses, which enables her to better understand what is required and to offer bespoke and tailored advice to them. Such advice, support and representation extends to corporate businesses, SMEs and private individuals, which can range from a junior employee through to a CEO at Board Level.

Joanna’s particular interests include advising on equality rights and policies in the workplace, post termination restrictive covenants and negotiating on terms of Settlement Agreements

Known for her balance of professionalism and approachability, Joanna brings energy and dedication to every challenge. She is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the Leicestershire Law Society. She is also a keen member and regular attendee at various networking events in the local area including membership of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
